Evaluation of the Information
It's clear that children have a very simple vocabulary and I think that using environmental education it's the best way to educate their virgin and inexperienced minds, to love the earth, its people and them relationship with the environment, leading towards a path of deeper learning and understanding of permaculture in the future.
Energy flow
Routines
Ohli daily schedule
I think that having a routines helps Ohli to understand the rhythm of the day, been more conscience and ready for the next step, like the lunch time or when going to bed.
Been a nomad family like us changing houses, constant transport and activities to do at any time, keep a routine is almost a juggling game.
On the left is an illustration in which I have outlined in a fairly simple way that is the closest thing to Ohli´s routine, how I think that's more appropriate for his flow through the day. But because we are travelling and moving constantly it is becoming difficult to meet, and when we don't follow it our biorhythms are altered.
After few months living in the same place (at Panya), it has become a little easier to have a stable schedule and I find that it´s very positive for all the family.
My personal schedule is quite different from his own and when we are out of adjustment our coexistence makes it little more complicated.
I think that if I also have a "routine" on the same page as Ohli, we can improve much more the quantity and quality of our time, and will help us to meet our needs day by day.

To enjoy the process of growing together I need to improve my energy levels to be at his height, so I have to better organize my sleeping hours adapting more our biorhythms, or organizing my time better with his mother or other parents.
Also to understand better what is going through his mind and why he's expressing it in that way I need to learn more about pedagogy, especially in child psychology.

Zones Analysis
It's not that easy to use zones analysis when are social projects and especially with kids, personally I haven't seen it before so I'll try to analyse where are the permaculture zones that affects to children's education, and I'll talk about the interaction that Ohlis gonna have with them.
When I have set the zones I have though at the physical, mental and emotional aspect, and are defined depending on the proximity and the time of interaction.
Because in a near future we want to be more stable by living permanently in one place, these zones have been planned for a more sedentary life than ours. Being a nomad family zone 2 and 3 are reduced to practically all be zone 4, unless the analysis is very specifically suited to the situation details.

- Zone 00 (Always intense interaction)
That's him and his perception of life, how he can absorb and process the information, the most important zone that if it don't works well any of the others will.
I think that's very important to motivate him to take his own decisions by empowering his self-esteem, that he can feel brave while we the adults keep him between a safe margins.
If he have a perception of life as a wonderful and kind place, he will be anxious to learn and absorb all the information that's going in his environment.
- Zone 0 (Intense and daily interaction)
The closest elements with who he will interact are his mother and I, that will be at the daily living with lots of shared hours through every single day.
This biggest interaction is happening at our home or wherever we are living when we are travelling, and our influences will be the most crucial for him to learn and understand how could be a better world by living with permaculture.
Those are the ones that interact with children quite often, especially grandma and grandpa are used to have to deal with the little ones of the family. Grandpas helps a lot as a grate parents support. Also close friend will be a big influence in his development, and can contribute in inspire him or not to live more connected with the natural environment and have better relations with others.
Forest schooling, boy scouts or other type of non governmental schooling and activities will be recognised as zone 2. |
The neighbourhood and it's inhabitants will also have a big impact in his growth development, specially when he will start to go to play at the street with his neighbour little mates.
Sometimes in a land project zone 3 can have high or low intensity depending on the situation, so I'll say that if he goes to a government school will be a quite high, so as a zone 3 it will have to be near our home. At the moment we want to avoid to put him in a governmental school but we never know and maybe one day we will have to value the marginal.
To me that's a zone that is affecting his present and future and the right to have a appropriate education.
Going at the big parks and near forest to pick up some firewood or mushrooms can be a really nice and educational experience for them, where they can have a deeper connection with the natural environment and better integrated in their live, then they can be more conscious about living and interacting with it.
When I was a little boy my father used to take me for walks at the woods, and that simple thing completely has influenced me to see the nature as I see today.
There I have started to understand and learn from nature, mushrooms, birds, insects... a full ecosystem university to open children's senses.
Also by travelling to other continents he can see the outside world, and grow with a open perspective about other cultures, landscapes and ecosystems.
- Zone 3 ( Low-moderate interaction and near by)

- Zone 4 (Low interaction just occasionally)

- Zone 5 ( No interaction and rarely visited area)

Sector Analysis
In a land-based permaculture design it is easy to recognise sectors, that is ‘energies passing through the site’ as being things like pollution, fire, winds, etc. However, in this design, what are the energies which pass through a child’s life with which he will have to interact?
I think that fear is their worst out side influence, and giving confidence to them will help them to build their defences against it.

Some of the Sectors that I know that can put him out of the permaculture way are:
There are many more sectors around but I just will look at some that I consider important.
Parents are the main influence about his diet, but inside of his possibilities also he can chose what he wants, for example he is vegetarian because he wanted it. I think that Food's sector affect all the zones because goes from his own decisions until to the "wild" market products that come from other people or countries. |
The next biggest influence will be his mother and I as we are in zone 0 and our closer family and friends. Our decisions and interactions will totally affect his perception and consciousness with the way of eating and growing food.
His interactions with his mates and them parents will be present in sporadically, but it can be more intense and frequent when he grows and he go with his street neighbours. They will be the first people from the outside home world with who he will learn to live in society.
My country's government is cutting lots of money to public schools, and not really doing nothing to teach kids about the new life without oil, or how to be organic or.... not much related with many things I think that are important for him (you can read more about my vision of education by clicking here). But at the public school they also teach other things that I agree are positive, as a cultural things that I don't practice at home but I think that are important to keeping our culture, traditions and identity alive.
Also I wanted to put the TV as a important threat as it is almost in everywhere, and most all the commercials, many cartoons and programs are not adequate to influence him to be more mentally, physically and emotionally healthier.
We decide to don't have TV at home, personally I don't have it for 20 years.
