The school garden background
The garden started two years ago driven by the last school director wishful, and his desire to introduce this experience to students inside the school. He is who has been in charge on the past time, and directed the previous activities.
He is the one who asked me to give them some help, and the only one with which I have been to meetings and decisions. The teachers committee for the garden is formed by three people, but for now (and it seems that will not change) I've only had contact with him.
On the right picture we can see the map with the old design of the garden, inspired by the traditional style of the surroundings. Half of the site had not been worked because to them, it was already enough space to work with.
Children have collaborated in the work of food production, and because of the time of harvest is at the holiday season, the school has picked the fruit and veg and made food baskets with them to sold to parents.
As I can see there is only one teacher (the old director) who has some gardening knowledge, and the others do not demonstrate to have nor much motivation to learn about.

My view
Below you can read my view on how I would like it to be this space inside the school, but if you want to read on how I would like to be the today's education, you can take a look on my view of education from my project 4:
I see a world where governmental schools have integrated food gardens into them educational system, showing to the youngest the importance of having a healthy diet, and how to produce their own food respecting the environment and the other people.
In a friendly space where they can learn the patterns of nature, and put them into practice. Knowing the importance of the garden ecosystems life and it's cycle. Where they can have the opportunity to start to set an example to their parents and relatives, expanding consciousness toward self-sufficiency and how easy and fun, it can be in an urban or rural space. |
Where new generations come up with knowledge and practice in organic agriculture, and the benefits of both self-consumption as a fair trade and quality. Given these well established principles and regularized in future societies.
