Daily Schedule
How the energy can flows better
To improve my relationship with Ohli
My ideal daily schedule
According with what I thought is my best combo schedule, I will try to combine Ohli´s and my biorhythms, because I think I can improve my resting time.
At that moment of peace when he is asleep, I'll have more freedom to do those jobs that require a higher concentration or risk of danger, and be free when he wakes up with his infinite power to discover the world with me.
This way I can design by reconciles our schedules together and benefit both at once.

MINE NOW OHLI'S MINE IDEAL
Super Dad
To improve my relationship with Ohli
What makes a good parent? Designing a super dad..., which profile do I think should be the best for a child in attitudes, habits, actions, thoughts... how fatherhood changes a man and how a man changes fatherhood? I can use my ideal daddy design and try to follow it as a model for my life, and write it and post it on the fridge, in my job, ... or wherever I can see it constantly to make me think if my ideal of dad is really materializing in me or not. |

To improve my relationship with Ohli
Long term goals
To know better which education system I want for Ohli
To know more deeply social permaculture with kids
To help me to integrate P.C. in kids lives
To improve my relationship with Ohli
- Apply the permaculture principles to my daily life.
- Try to be as better super dad as I can (see above)
- Try to be as much as possible in tune with Ohli's biorhythm, by matching our daily schedule (see above).
Long term goals
To know better which education system I want for Ohli
- Keep learning about the different educational options for the future. At the moment we will do home schooling until he is six, but if he wants to go to nursery Nim is gonna study the best option. I think that Nim has to be the one who decide Ohli's education as she is his mother, and I have to respect and support her decision.
To know more deeply social permaculture with kids
- Participate in PC events related with kids.
- Explore more ways to apply PC with kids.
- Explore other other people that are working in it.
To help me to integrate P.C. in kids lives
- Apply the permaculture principles to my relation with kids.
- Organise a PC event or project for kids.
Implementing through Ethics
To help me to integrate P.C. in Ohli and kids lives
Below you can see how through different experiences that we have had during the last six month, we have lived the Ethics to have better love for nature, people and the relationships between us.
This way I hope that in the future the permaculture ethics are integrated into his way of life, and his mind is more prepared and receptive to understanding their importance.
As I have said in the Applying Principles section, I think the best way for children to love permaculture in the future is to start teaching them environmental education in their lives.
Also we have tried to follow the applying principles section to improve or relationship, and we have learned together in a carefree way discovering the natural world that surrounds us.

Earth Care
Being as a nomad family as we are constantly in motion changing environment, whether it is in rural areas or in the city there was always opportunities to bring near him awareness about the life of plants, animals, people, geography,..., the ecosystem and the interactions that are formed between all its components.
At the beginning of our relationship we were living at the Panya project, and because our home was a mud house in the middle of the jungle it was much easier to be in continuous contact with nature. After Thailand we have started to travel around and it was more challenge to be in natural environments, but we have took every chance to escape to the wild. |
Finally we decided to go to live in Spain and find a place to develop our permaculture project.
Nim and I wants that Ohlis grows in a natural environment the early years of his life. We have believed that learning to develop himself in nature and wild spaces will help him in the future, to better understand how natural ecosystems works and have a compassion and love for them. |
Also not been a nomad family anymore and have a base camp to stay, reduce our travels footprint impact and there is less waste on many things as food as we can recycle our leftovers.
People Care
This project is dedicated to improve my relationship with Ohli so it has to be a lot with people care.
When we was living in Thailand Ohli was the only toddler in the community, and that was one of the reasons because we have left the place, we wanted him to have his little buddies. Now Ohli is very young and still wants to be mostly with his mother, but every time is interacting more and more with other kids. We have tried to be more in contact with other parents and kids, so Ohli could make friends along the way, but finally was very challenged to find other toddlers to play with because travelling. |
So Nim and I have decided to live in a permanent place and try to find a better emotional stability for all of us, and we have moved to Barcelona looking for Ohli could make friends more easily.
Still now we are looking for him to have more and good friends and relations with others, to develop his communication and interaction skills.
Here in Barcelona we go many times to a kinder garden inside a park, there is an environment closer to nature and if he want he can play and learn with other kids.

We have also attended to some sporadic social events, like collaborating to grow a food forest at the Can Mas Deu community, where he could know other kids and adults learning through the experience to work nicely in community.
Being a Super Dad is a super challenge and is still in process, every day I can have tests that lead my margins to unexplored extremes, and it is not always easy to stay in my centre.
I have tried to listen and observe what he wants to say to me with his little vocabulary to avoid misunderstandings, many times it has been a challenge because my adult mind has a hard time getting inside his mind, but as he grows it becomes easier for both.
I have also tried to let him do things for himself, so that his autonomy and self-confidence grows in terms to solve situations, doing simple things as clean up the room or him self, dress, walks, climb...
Because I am a very nocturnal person, I have a hard time adjusting my daily schedule to the one he have. Now I get up sooner and by not working or travelling constantly we try to have meals and other routines on time, so that he can be better aware at what time we are and prepare for the next step.

Fair Share
Fight for a toy car is common between little boys, even when they have fifty more to choose from.
Those simple moments were key to transmit to him values and ethics among sharing with other people. In our family we have tried to live in an environment where there is no violence and we try to empathise with each other, we want him to see that violence is not a way to get things or have your way with others, instead we have shown him that being kind to each other is the way that we can grow together and get things done in a nice way for all of us. We have tried to be an example of non violence and teaching him how is much better to share than to fight. Sharing is caring. |
Also Ohli is used to have second hand things, at this age all the tolls are new and they don't care if are a bit broken, they can have lots of fun without having to expend lots of new resources (future waste and lack of resources).
Progressively he is learning the values recycling and waiting to invest in having quality things that last for a long time, instead of something that is not of quality, however beautiful it may be ends up in the trash and he will lose it.

How to keep going
Because there is no rule for anyone and everyone as individuals must be treated as unique there is not a formula that works for all, the only way to continue improving our relationship with children is based in endless regenerations and our creativity to adapt to the new circumstances.
To keep abreast of the news in my own and theirs development apprenticeship, I must be very aware of the changes being made, and based on spending time with them I can observe in with time of evolution we are, and have a better understand of some patterns that are similar in all of us.
Communication is my key tool to be updated on how is our relationship going, is very important to listen and understand with much more than words.
Maintaining relationships with other parents and children is very useful to see and compare with what is happening in other families. This helps to reflect and evaluate my own experiences, and children also can learn to relate and develop their skills in society.
I think the unconditional love for him is the best way to overcome the challenges that arise in the path, giving us energy to keep going and day after day be closer to each other.
Being an example is the best way for them to keep learning the way of permaculture and integrate it into their lives, starting with basic concepts based on ecology to make it easier to understand the importance of being holistically connected with the landscape and society.

Next steps
The daily schedule was not always easy to follow, wake up early it's been one of my biggest challenge in my live, I can considerate to myself as a night person, and going to sleep late didn't got me the energy to be at his level in the mornings. But we could adjust many of our time schedules during the day and when we could keep the routine on time, the day has been more easy to flow for him and in consequense for us, especially at meals and bed time.
I have tried to be a "Super Dad", sometimes easy some times not. Especially not easy to have always patience, dedication, discipline, or be positive, fun, creative and clear. I has depended a lot on our day's mood. Also many times was challenge to have the energy to do not judge, play, sing or dance, but when I did it I have had always good feedback from him, because those are important things for him and our relationship to get better.

We have had our lunch and dinner together almost everyday and it has been a time of the day where we have connected with each other, a time to talk about how the day was and how we are feeling. Not always but many of these moments have helped us to know the situation that is going through each one of us.
We have went to the nursery at the park, it's full of wooden toys and recycled material to use when playing. It has been a wonderful free and local resource.
And been aware about the baby phases has helped me as a guide in many cases, to identify things that already he have passed and the ones that are coming next. This way I could empathize better with his experiences.

Minus
Because we've been traveling for a long time has been very difficult to find other families with whom to share experiences. Also we didn't have any support from old friends or family, and all this makes that is still difficult to me to have my own space and time.
It seems that some of the guidelines to follow we will have to be repeat and repeat and... until he is a bit older. For example I never know how hungry he is until he's done :), or he is more curious to know how things work than to take care of them.

Interesting
When I have looked at him as a mirror I have understood better his mood, and I have tried to fix in my what is wrong in the situation (not always easy to see and do it :) )
To follow a routine still is a challenge, we just have come to live a new life in Barcelona and already we are looking for land near here to do our life project.
But when we could not keep the same schedule timing as meals, wake up, go to bed .. at least we have tried to keep the ritual of doing so. We have tried to keep the same steps every day, and we have noticed that this helps to better position himself in time and space.

Project Reflections
I've wanted to dedicate at least half a year to do this project, I thought that a baby evolution is "slow" and it could be very beneficial for me to be doing this project until Ohli becomes an child.
I have enjoyed doing a none land based project and exploring other ways to look into permaculture. Being a non-physical project design it has been very challenging to not get lost in abstractions.
I have passed through two different processes along this project, starting with OBREDIMET but I haven't felt that the project had sense, I think because my lack of knowledge by not have been using this process before. I had felt that this process was to do a specific design as a site project or a product with a clear beginning and end, as a life design that never ends I have needed it to be a flexible design.
Then I have tried to use CEAP to work with something new for me and a more simply process to do, and I have felt that I can let the process more open and I can keep working on it. Also I have found that using principles to define a design works very well for a people and social projects.
I have given great importance to the observations as it was a very extensive subject to discover, and I needed to better understand what I was getting into.
It was very interesting to work with integral theory as an observation tool, I feel it helps me a lot to goo deeply in my thoughts and influences, highly recommend to do personal and social projects.
Also I think that to use the four questions to evaluate a life project is perfect, it has helped me lots to have a better perspective of how it was and what I should do.
Again language has been a big challenge and I have had lots of translation work to make it easy to understand in the same sense that I wanted to express it. Also I have found very difficult to find good information talking about the CEAP process, I could find a good definition of the process and examples to see.
At my final portfolio assessment still I had to do lots of changes suggested by my tutor, as I have restructured many subjects and redo the zones and sectors analysis, with which I have learned lots on how to transform permaculture land tools to people and social tools, something that still it is lots of work to do.
Finally now I think I can present this project having sense and in a coherent process.
Personal Reflections
I wanted to give special importance to this project, because I believed that If I wanted to adapt to the new circumstances with my old experience, it was going to be a challenge. Do this project has helped me a lot in one of the most tricky moments of my life.
I think I have expanded much more my understanding towards ourselves in our early life, something that I have almost forgotten consciously, but it still affecting me in many aspects now and for the rest of my life.
Integral Theory has been a new experience for me, 100% self-paced, and very important to see some aspects in my unconscious that influence in the relationship I have with children and education.
Now I can get better into the head of these little ones, understand them and have a more appropriate communication. Following the changes from baby to child from a more permaculture view point. Also it has helped me to connect with the roots of our existence and the role we have as adults in the lives of children.
I greatly expanded my perspective on what is education, and the importance that this has on society and its future, which is to be free and know how to love. This experience definitely helped me to better understand with Ohli.
Professional Reflections
From now children will be more present in my designs.
Doing this project I've learned a lot, and I reconnected with my learning as children environmental educator that I had studied a while ago. I will take this in the present and future as a tool to work with other children and families in permaculture.
I think that to use the resource audit made by my first diploma tutor Thomas Remiarz, is a better professional way to look at the resources without letting any key point behind.
Time Reflections
This project has been made in about two and a half months, but it's been implemented and evaluated for few month more. I started in May 2012 and keep adding info and reviews untill february 2013, but as a life project it never ends repeating the processes endless times.
How can you calculate the time you dedicate to "your" child? Twenty-four hours a day seven days a week ...? The truth is I cannot make an estimate of the time spent experimenting with permaculture in my relationship with Ohli, but I have detailed the hours I've been thinking and doing the wording and layout of the website.

Other Reflections
Here I expose some last reflections after the learning I have got by doing this project.
Tantrums
If they have a tantrum don´t take it personally. Recognize that your child is expressing the frustration or anger in an immature way. It´s hard but parents are the models of self-control and we need to teach our kids, so be calm and don't waste your energies by yelling or threatening because normally this provides fuel to a kid in a tantrum and don´t help.
Try to distract them with something out of context, some times a surprise can take out them from a critical moment, and if nothing works just let them take it out and cool down.
Child proof
The best way to proactively child proof is to get down to your child's level. This way we can integrate in our eyes them visual perspective, and there we can recognise all the potential hazards within his grasp. Remember that anything that can be pulled, thrown, toppled or opened probably will be, and never underestimate their ingenuity, a two and a half old can break apart your computer keyboard buttons in three minutes (I have seen it :)).
Give simple instructions
Try to get into the age of their mind, they have a simple way to perceive reality and aren't able to understand complicated explanations, but they will eventually take a simple and small command if you repeat it slowly and ooooooften enough.
